Distributional Similarity and Preposition Semantics
نویسنده
چکیده
Prepositions are often considered to have too little semantic content or be too polysemous to warrant a proper semantic description. We illustrate the suitability of distributional similarity methods for analysing preposition semantics by way of an inter-preposition similarity task, and make the claim that any semantic account of preposition semantics must be partially conditioned on valence.

Distributional Models of Preposition Semantics
Prepositions are often considered to have too little semantic content or be too polysemous to warrant a proper semantic description. We first illustrate the suitability of distributional similarity methods for analysing preposition semantics by way of an inter-preposition similarity task, and make the claim that any semantic account of preposition semantics must be partially conditioned on vale...

متن کاملDisambiguation of the Semantics of German Prepositions: a Case Study
In this paper, we describe our experiments in preposition disambiguation based on a – compared to a previous study – revised annotation scheme and new features derived from a matrix factorization approach as used in the field of distributional semantics. We report on the annotation and Maximum Entropy modelling of the word senses of two German prepositions, mit (‘with’) and auf (‘on’). 500 occu...
متن کاملThere Is No Logical Negation Here, But There Are Alternatives: Modeling Conversational Negation with Distributional Semantics
Logical negation is a challenge for distributional semantics, because predicates and their negations tend to occur in very similar contexts, and consequently their distributional vectors are very similar. Indeed, it is not even clear what properties a “negated” distributional vector should possess. However, when linguistic negation is considered in its actual discourse usage, it often performs ...
متن کاملStochastic Distributional Models for Textual Information Retrieval
The objective of this paper is to present a textual similarity model for Information Retrieval (IR) based on the Distributional Semantic (DS) model. This model is an extension of the standard Vector Space model, which further takes into account the co-frequencies between the terms in a given reference corpus, that are considered to provide a distributional representation of the "semantics" of t...
